Modular sofa; Italy, 1970s. Red upholstery. Consists of 4 individual modules. In good condition considering its age. The upholstery needs cleaning. Measurements: 73 x 67 x 71 cm (x4); 39 cm (seat height, x4). Modular sofa composed of four independent elements, upholstered in red fabric with hallmarks of contrast in trim. Its configuration of padded sections, curved backrests, and fully upholstered frame reflects the experimentation in 1970s Italian design with flexible seating systems and forms of marked sculptural presence. The ability to arrange the modules separately or together allows for various configurations, adapting to different spaces and needs. Its formal language shares affinities with Italian research into modular furniture from that era. During the 1970s, Italian design explored new ways of understanding home furnishings, combining formal experimentation, flexibility, and a more informal conception of space. Modular sofas took center stage due to their versatility.
