Eugen Bracht Oil study for Rochlitz an der Mulde Oil on hardboard. 49.5 x 59.5 cm. Signed and dated lower left: EUGEN BRACHT. 1905. Provenance Private collection, Europe. Literature M. Osborn: Eugen Bracht, Bielefeld und Leipzig 1909, S. 71. According to Osborn, Eugen Bracht’s work from his time in Saxony is characterised by a “constant loosening and refinement of his use of colour” (Osborn, op cit, p. 89.), which is evident in the painting "Rochlitz an der Mulde" as well as in this earlier oil study. We would like to thank Dr Manfred Großkinsky, Karlsruhe, for his verbal confirmation of the work’s authenticity as by Eugen Bracht, based on digital photographs.
