Provenance In second generation in private collection, Germany. By the time this charming oil sketch was created, Oswald Achenbach had already travelled to Italy on several occasions. The female figure dressed in white at the centre of the painting appears repeatedly in Achenbach’s Italian woodland landscapes. It almost seems as though one could trace her path through the woods of this coveted destination by following his paintings.
