Edme Bouchardon Boy with his arms raised Red chalk. 38 x 22 cm. Provenance Private collection, Germany. The drawing depicts a boy with his arms raised. It was drawn in connection with Edme Bouchardon’s masterpiece, the Fontaine des Quatre-Saisons on Rue de Grenelle. This is a monumental fountain complex commissioned by the City of Paris in 1745, comprising a large number of sculptures and reliefs. In one of the niches stands a sculpture of a boy holding a water bowl above his head with both hands. This drawing, executed in Bouchardon’s characteristic red chalk technique, depicts this sculpture in profile.
