This work by Alexander Koester was probably created during his time at Lake Constance. The work itself is not included in the catalogue raisonné, but there are two variants from almost identical perspectives (cf. R. Stein / H. Koester: Alexander Koester 1864-1932. Leben und Werk. Recklinghausen 1988, no. 859 and 860) showing ducks near a shore in the community of Hard. In our painting, we see the ducks in different light – possibly in the evening hours – which Alexander Koester captures with bold, impasto brushstrokes.
