Adolf Schreyer Three Arab Horsemen Oil on canvas (relined). 81 x 130 cm. Signed lower right: A. Schreyer. Provenance South German private collection. Adolf Schreyer achieved international fame and recognition chiefly as an Orientalist painter, in particular with paintings of Arab horsemen. In the present painting, three Bedouin warriors are riding at a trot through a desert landscape. Characteristic of Schreyer is the rapid, nervous brushwork that emphasises the riders' forward movement. The bright red cloak of the central rider marks him out as the leader.
