Fragment of an anthropomorphic figure, possibly from an Iberian votive offering. 3rd–2nd centuries B.C. Bronze with an oxidation patina. Provenance: Family bequest from Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. An archaeological collection assembled beginning in the 1950s by successive generations of the family through purchases at European galleries and auction houses. Measurements: 3.1 cm high. Fragment of an anthropomorphic bronze figure, possibly part of an Iberian votive offering. It features a schematically rendered head with a rounded and slightly elongated skull, barely suggested facial features, and a narrow neck with a curved profile. The surface displays a patina of ochre and greenish tones, with surface deposits. Bronze votive offerings are one of the most characteristic expressions of Iberian religiosity, particularly well-documented at sanctuaries in the southeastern part of the Iberian Peninsula. These small anthropomorphic figures, deposited as votive offerings, display a wide variety of stylistic treatments, ranging from naturalistic representations to highly stylized ones. The fragment exhibits characteristics consistent with the latter tradition, although its fragmentary condition prevents a more precise typological identification.
