Italian-designed floor lamp, circa 1960. Chrome-plated metal and polished aluminum. Measurements: 157 / 187 x 75 x 23 cm. Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. Italian floor lamp from around 1960, designed for the dining table, with adjustable height and a Space Age-inspired design. Featuring a chrome-plated metal frame and a polished aluminum shade, it has a sleek and lightweight structure, with a circular base that ensures stability and an elegantly curved shaft, topped by a three-quarter-sphere-shaped shade that can be adjusted to different angles. “Space Age” is the name given to the period when the space race began, starting in 1957 with the launch of Sputnik. This craze for conquering space also extended to design, and during the 1960s and 1970s, a style of interior design emerged based on an idyllic vision of the future and everything related to spaceships, new technologies, and innovative materials.
