47 - HUNDEVAD & CO. Bookcase. Denmark, 1960s.

HUNDEVAD & CO. Bookcase. Denmark, 1960s. Rosewood veneer. Marked on the back “Made in Denmark” and “Furnituremakers Danish Control.” It shows slight signs of wear consistent with its age. Measurements: 129 x 108 x 30 cm. Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. This bookcase is a fine example of mid-20th-century Danish furniture, in which clear construction and functionality are combined with a special emphasis on wood. The structure is organized into two sections with different layouts, connected by shelves and a central vertical post, while the rosewood adds visual richness thanks to the depth of its color and the pattern of its grain. During this period, Hundevad & Co. produced a wide range of storage furniture characterized by clean lines and modular or adaptable designs suited to the home. The piece also bears the Furnituremakers Danish Control seal, corresponding to the voluntary Danish furniture quality control system established in 1959, which oversaw materials, manufacturing processes, and the finished product.
