Conical Glass Venice, mid-16th century H. 16.6 cm; bowl diameter: 10.6 cm; base diameter: 7.8 cm Condition: Excellent The conical glass is made of colorless glass and features a “vetro a retortoli” decoration consisting of twelve spaced-out rods. The rim and the foot are joined by a ball between two colorless glass discs. A later inscription, engraved with a diamond point, reads: “PI V P 1598.” Glasses of this shape exist with various types of decoration. An example featuring the same rods is held at the British Museum in London. With the exception of its wavy-walled bowl, this example has the same shape as the glass described here (Tait, Hugh, *The Golden Age of Venetian Glass*, London, 1979, cat. no. 100).
