F Nash - Interior of the Chapter House of Salisbury Cathedral 1814. This hand coloured copper engraving depicts the Interior of the Chapter House of Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire, England. Drawn by the architectural draftsman Frederick Nash and etched by W. Smith and finished by the prominent landscape engraver John Pye. It was originally published in 1814 by W. Dodsworth for a historical publication documenting Salisbury Cathedral. The print captures the celebrated Early English Gothic style of the octagonal chapter house. It prominently features the iconic central Purbeck marble pillar, which branches out like a palm tree into elegant ribbed vaulting. Large geometric tracery windows flood the space with light, and medieval blind arcading lines the base of the walls. Today, this exact historic chamber houses the best-preserved original copy of the 1215 Magna Carta. Size: 28cm x 24cm The print is in excellent condition - please inspect the image carefully for any occasional age related marks.
