P. Flormond – Important religious diorama depicting the Passion of Christ, carved from bone and plaster – Probably Belgian or Dutch in origin, 1870–1873 The ensemble consists of several miniature architectural structures, religious scenes, and a multitude of elements carved in relief, arranged against a red and black background within a deep wooden frame. The composition features numerous instruments of the Passion (Arma Christi), including the cross, ladders, spears, swords, pincers, hammers, whips, the crown of thorns, the rooster, and lanterns. The delicacy of the carved elements, the profusion of details, and the complexity of the assembly attest to remarkable craftsmanship, patience, and devotion—characteristic of 19th-century folk religious art. An old handwritten label on the reverse bears the name “P. Flormond” and the years 1870–1873. Condition: Original condition with damage, missing parts, cracks, detached or displaced elements, signs of wear, and dust accumulation. Visible crack in the red background.
