Obverse: Side-by-side busts of the Duke and Duchess of Berry on the right, beneath a small star; the Duke in the foreground, bareheaded, the Duchess in the background, wearing a tiara and a necklace. Signed: GAYRARD F. Reverse: “FATA ASPERA VINCES,” with the exergue: “N · DIE · XXIX · SEPT · / MDCCCXX.” The young Duke of Bordeaux, nude and depicted as the infant Hercules, reclining to the right on a drapery, smothering a winged serpent with his raised left hand and holding a second serpent in his right hand; signed GAYRARD F. below the exergue line.
