FRANCE — Birth of Henri d'Artois, Duke of Bordeaux, 1820, by Armand-Auguste Caqué (1793–1881). Obverse: “C. F. DUCHESS OF BERRY, BORN NOV. 5, 1798. MARRIED JUNE 17, 1816. WIDOWED FEB. 14, 1820.” Veiled bust in right-side profile of Marie-Caroline de Bourbon-Siciles, Duchess of Berry, in widow’s attire. Signed: CAQUÉ F. Reverse: “FRENCH, THIS IS THE BLOOD OF YOUR KINGS, THE SON OF ST. LOUIS, SON OF HENRY IV AND LOUIS THE GREAT,” with the exergue: “H. C. F. M. DIEUDONNÉ D’ART. DUKE OF / BORDEAUX, BORN SEPT. 29, / 1820.” The Duchess of Berry, draped and veiled in the classical style, standing facing left, holding out the newborn infant with outstretched arms.
