PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG LADY WITH A BOOK OF POETRY. PORTRAIT MINIATURE ON BONE. EUROPE, 19TH CENTURY. An elegant oval portrait miniature on bone depicting a young lady in a romantic image characteristic of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The sitter is portrayed in a contemplative mood during a walk, holding a small volume of poetry, emphasizing her refinement, education and connection with the sentimental culture of her era. The composition is executed in the tradition of European portrait miniature painting, distinguished by delicate brushwork, subtle modelling of the face and meticulous attention to costume details.
