RUSSIAN MODERN HANGING OIL LAMP DESIGNED BY SERGEI VASHKOV. P.I. OLOVYANISHNIKOV & SONS RUSSIAN EMPIRE, MOSCOW, 1911. An exquisite hanging oil lamp executed after an original design by Sergei Ivanovich Vashkov, one of the leading masters of Moscow Art Nouveau and a key reformer of ecclesiastical artistic language in the early 20th century. A domed finial surmounted by a cross crowns a system of chains supporting a circular mount with a central deep-blue glass vessel. The lamp exemplifies Vashkov’s characteristic synthesis of Byzantine tradition, Old Russian heritage, and Art Nouveau aesthetics. Materials: Brass, blue glass, green glass beads.
