Gino SILVESTRI (1928–2022) Chartres Cathedral, 1959 Oil on canvas. 100 x 120 cm. Biography: A ceramicist and painter active in the 1960s and 1970s, he began as a figurative artist until 1959 (characterized by a style reminiscent of Venetian vedutismo) before moving toward abstraction. From 1964 to 1975, he explored the meandering lines of plant forms, then briefly experimented with flame painting in the 1970s, before returning to a colorful exploration reminiscent of Informalism and Spatialism. Notably, he served as the technical director for Jean Bazaine’s mosaic project on the ceiling of the Cluny–La Sorbonne metro station.
