Niki DE SAINT PHALLE (1930–2002) "Ganesh," 1993 Sculpture in polyester resin, polyurethane paint, gold leaf, five light bulbs, electrical system. Metal base. Metal signature stamp and 4/4 EA proof mark at the base of one leg. Haligon publisher’s stamp. 110 x 45 x 48 cm. Very slight signs of wear. Ganesh is representative of Niki de Saint Phalle’s work at that time, which was marked by her exploration of deities and the sacred, notably influenced by her trip to India and her work on the Tarot Garden. This lamp sculpture perfectly illustrates her mastery of colored resin and precious materials such as gold leaf. It synthesizes her joyful pop art universe with the kinetic and light-based experiments she shared with her partner Jean Tinguely. OH
