Francisco ITURRINO GONZALEZ. (1864–1924) "Garden in Málaga" Oil on canvas. Signed lower right. Titled on the back. Dimensions: 85 x 69 cm Provenance: Collection of Mr. L., Toulouse. A native of the Spanish Basque Country, his calling first led him to study in Brussels, then in Paris, where he became part of a vibrant artistic scene: he befriended Picasso and the patron Gustave Coquiot (1901), exhibitions at the gallery of the prominent art dealer Ambroise Vollard (four exhibitions between 1901 and 1911), and exhibitions at the Salons des Indépendants and the Salons d’Automne, where he rubbed shoulders with the Fauvists, notably Derain. The poet Guillaume Apollinaire paid tribute to him in a newspaper review. In 1911, he painted in Andalusia alongside Matisse, having already established his studio in Seville in 1901. Experts: Frédérick and Pauline CHANOIT
