Serpieri PAOLO SERPIERI DRUUNA Aphrodisia (Vol. 6), Bagheera 1997 Original plate no. 32. Signed. India ink and colored inks on paper 26 × 36.5 cm (10.24 × 14.37 in.) Created by Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri in 1985, Druuna—initially a supporting character in the Morbus Gravis series—became one of the icons of erotic comics of her era. Druuna inhabits a post-apocalyptic science fiction universe, where she embodies at once a survivor, an adventurer, and, of course, an erotic figure elevated by Paolo Serpieri’s prodigious artwork. She is the only being of true integrity in a decadent, crumbling world where the body is constantly threatened, transformed, or exploited. What makes Druuna unique is that she embodies both vulnerability and resilience in a world where disease corrodes humans as well as stone and machines.
