Crisse CRISSE THE CRYSTAL SWORD The Gaze of Wenlok (Vol. 2), Vents d’Ouest 1991 Original cover. Signed. Oil on canvas 50 × 70 cm (19.69 × 27.56 in.) At a very young age, Crisse published work in *Spirou* and *Tintin* and followed in the footsteps of Dany, whose artistic style inspired him. But starting in the 1990s, based on a script by Jacky Goupil, he branched out into an emerging genre: heroic fantasy, with the creation of the cult series *The Crystal Sword* published by Vents d’Ouest. For the covers of this series, he painted scenes in oils, a technique he mastered thanks to his academic training. These are the only covers he ever created using this medium. The result is this bold composition, characterized by transparency in the colors and masterful handling of light. A true work of art.
