Ledroit OLIVIER LEDROIT SHA Soleil The Shadow One, original illustration created in 2016. Signed. Acrylic on canvas 80 × 120 cm (31.5 × 47.24 in.) This painting by Olivier Ledroit, inspired by the first cover of *Sha*, is a monumental mixed-media work—as is often the case with this artist—combining ink, acrylic, and airbrush. In it, Ledroit transforms Sha—a vengeful goddess born from the curse of a woman burned at the stake as a witch—into a true fantasy icon. In the tradition of Philippe Druillet or Jean-Michel Nicollet, Ledroit confronts the viewer head-on through the symmetry of the composition and the solemn presence of a black body with metallic sheen, which stands out against a powerful mass of yellow-orange. An image that encapsulates the Gothic aesthetic and eroticism characteristic of the world created by today’s finest fantasy illustrator.
