Liberatore TANINO LIBERATORE RANXEROX (Vol. 3) Albin Michel 1996 Original back cover, previously published for a portfolio of postcards by Aedena in 1985. Signed. India ink, graphite, and acrylic on paper 16 × 22.8 cm (6.3 × 8.98 in.) With an academic background, Tanino Liberatore’s drawing reveals his fascination with the human body. No wonder he cites Michelangelo as one of his influences! But he imbues it with a strength and expressiveness that is distinctly punk. In the late 1970s, Tamburini created the RanXerox series for him. One immediately notices its radical hyperrealism, achieved through an innovative technique combining felt-tip pens, Stabilo markers, gouache, and… makeup pencils. His renderings are as mysterious as the philosopher’s stone: one doesn’t know where he gets these smudges, these colors, these lights… There is something visceral in his drawings, a disturbing strangeness. A unique artist who left his mark on his era.
