Moebius MOEBIUS "Le Fil d'Ariane," original illustration for a silkscreen print, created in 2005. Also the cover of the catalog for the exhibition *In Search of Time* in Naples (Archaeological Museum of Naples, 2021). Signed. Watercolor and graphite on paper 41 × 31 cm (16.14 × 12.2 in.) This work is pure, unadulterated Moebius! We are all familiar with the myth of Ariadne’s thread, which allowed Theseus, son of Aegeus, to escape the Minotaur’s labyrinth. Moebius depicts him here wearing a helmet and ceremonial armor, along with his weathered cloak, entrusting his fate with his eyes closed to the mortal Ariadne, daughter of King Minos—the very king who had sent Theseus to face the Minotaur and who is in love with him. Serene, she holds in her hands the thread that will save them from the monster. Once he has escaped, Theseus is forced to part ways with Ariadne, who is destined for the god Dionysus; as the son of Knossos, the god of time, Dionysus obtains from Zeus the power to make her immortal. Aphrodite even gives her a sumptuous crown as a wedding gift to adorn her golden hair: the Boreal Crown. This may be the symbolic meaning Moebius imbued in this depiction of Minos—killed by Theseus—as he attempts to devour the stars. Didier Pasamonik
