Cuvelier PAUL CUVELIER Epoxy, Eric Losfeld 1968 Original plate no. 6. India ink on paper 38 × 56.6 cm (14.96 × 22.28 in.) Epoxy marks a major turning point in the history of Belgian comics. With this album, Paul Cuvelier—one of the four founding artists of *Le Journal Tintin*—fully embraced the only area of comics that truly appealed to him: comics for adults, particularly erotic ones. He would do so with the publisher of *Barbarella* in 1968. It was a young executive at Philips who gave him the opportunity: a certain Jean Van Hamme, for whom this was his first comic. Cuvelier had a field day with it: each character in this story was drawn “from life,” that is, based on live models. Hence the perfection of their anatomy, which is all the more classical given that the album’s subject matter is inspired by Greek mythology.
