Roger ROGER JAZZ MAYNARD Mélodie d'El Raval (Vol. 2), Dargaud 2008 Original cover. Signed. India ink on paper 35 × 47 cm (13.78 × 18.5 in.) For the cover of the second volume of Jazz Maynard, Raule and I wanted to pay homage to George Roy Hill’s film *Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid*. We drew inspiration from a scene showing Paul Newman and Robert Redford leaning against a wall. The chemistry between the two old friends, on the hunt for the perfect heist, was exactly the spirit we wanted to capture in this cover. We maintained this natural feel for our protagonists by avoiding any stiffness in their body language: they had to look relaxed, yet confident. And finally, in the background, four brushstrokes define the classic architecture of Barcelona’s El Raval neighborhood. Roger
