Tardi JACQUES TARDI ADÈLE BLANC-SEC Mummies Gone Wild (Vol. 4), Casterman 1978 Original page no. 27, first published in *L'Hebdo* de la BD in 1978. India ink on paper 32.3 × 44 cm (12.72 × 17.32 in.) If there is one Adèle Blanc-Sec album that can be described as “Tardiesque,” it is certainly *Momies en folie*. Not only does it turn the conventions of Franco-Belgian adventure comics on their head with a completely parodic and burlesque story in which the mummies of Paris—including the one that takes pride of place in the heroine’s apartment—suddenly come back to life, but it also takes the reader on a tour of most of Paris’s iconic landmarks, from the Natural History Museum to the Catacombs, via Père Lachaise—a place Jacques Tardi, who lives nearby, knows like the back of his hand. It’s a sort of mix between the gore of Don Siegel’s *Invasion of the Body Snatchers* (or *The Walking Dead*, for younger readers) and *Blake & Mortimer*. Aesthetically, in this iconic panel, Tardi is at his peak.
