Martin JACQUES MARTIN ALIX Les Légions perdues (Vol. 6), Casterman 1965 Original illustration, cover design for the comic book, published in *Projets de couverture* from the Espace BD catalog in 2004. Signed. India ink, colored inks, and pastel on paper 18 × 23.5 cm (7.09 × 9.25 in.) This was a directive from Lombard’s publisher, Raymond Leblanc, who, as a shrewd businessman, had required his authors to create three quickly sketched cover designs for each new album. His sales director, Jacques De Kezel, and his art director, Evany (the latter, Hergé’s first collaborator as early as 1929, creator of the title lettering for the Tintin albums, had also designed the layout for the cloth-bound albums known as “bearskin” and later “checkered” editions published by Lombard) would work with him to select the most “striking” one. After moving to Casterman, Jacques Martin continued this practice.
