Color version: 29 × 36.5 cm “There is something truer than the true,” said Baudrillard: “the plausible.” Look at how André Juillard handles the rain here: as the perspective shifts, the diagonal lines vary. But upon closer inspection, everything is consistent; the direction of the lines is carefully observed and remains constant. At the same time, this character in Burberry and a Stetson is surprisingly well-dressed for the mission he has set for himself: climbing all the way up to Captain Blake’s room. This interplay between the real and the plausible is one of the best-kept secrets of the Clear Line. Madeleine De Mille’s magnificent colors contribute to this spell.
