Hergé HERGÉ TINTIN Coke en Stock (Vol. 19), Casterman 1958 Original illustration, sketches, and notes No. 5 for the script. India ink and graphite on paper This draft script for *Coke en Stock* shows that Hergé envisioned an alternative ending in which Roberto Rastapopoulos—depicted in these sketches with a beard and aboard his yacht, the *Schéhérazade* (inspired by the Chahazard, built in 1936)—would perish in the explosion of a hijacked rocket in the middle of the Pacific. The artist ultimately abandoned this idea, likely due to its strong resemblance to the ending of *La Grande Menace*, an album in the *Lefranc* series created by his collaborator Jacques Martin, but also because of the difficulty of permanently eliminating such an iconic recurring villain from the *Tintin* universe. Hergé nevertheless retained several elements from this draft in the final album, namely the character of Rastapopoulos under the pseudonym Marquis di Gorgonzola, his luxurious yacht, and the invitation extended to Tintin and Captain Haddock by Countess Castafiore.
