Midam MIDAM GAME OVER Cold Case: Frozen Cases (Vol. 8), Mad Fabrik 2012 Original artwork, gag No. 289, previously published in *Le Journal de Spirou* No. 3880, August 22, 2012. Signed. India ink on paper 28.5 × 37.5 cm (11.22 × 14.76 in.) This gag reminds gamers of the Power Gloves and, more recently, Nintendo’s Wii, which allow users to perform gestures that are carried out on the screen. At Midam, the gag is a subtle device that plays with video game clichés. This is an exercise made all the more difficult—and successful—by the fact that it is wordless. Everything hinges on the characters’ facial expressions and the effectiveness of the slapstick, the final punchline. A masterpiece of its genre, in the tradition of Franquin, who somewhat modernized the gag in Franco-Belgian comics.
