Signed. Watercolor and India ink on paper 37 × 26.4 cm (14.57 × 10.39 in.) How could one not draw a car when fulfilling a commission from a bookstore in Le Mans? Olivier Schwartz therefore opted for a modernized version of the Turbotraction. Once again, the vehicle’s movement from right to left, Fantasio’s concern about the arrival time, and the yellow headlights cutting through the darkness of the night lend this illustration a dramatic atmosphere. “I had initially painted a lighter blue background that I didn’t like. So I darkened it a bit. And this nocturnal atmosphere with its shades of blue became much more interesting.” O.S.
