A superb gallery of our main characters, including Marsupilami, in front of a crowd celebrating the Atomium, erected for the Brussels World’s Fair. We see Spirou as he was in his heyday, back in 1958. Short pants and hats are the order of the day. The ice cream and the short-sleeved shirt suggest that it is summer. The way the characters’ gazes are directed in multiple directions reinforces the sense of vibrancy that emanates from the illustration. “Usually, the colors in my panels are done by others, digitally, and they’re quite bold. Here, these are my own colors. I’ve gone with softer, more pastel tones. I’m pretty proud of them.” O.S.
