Schwartz OLIVIER SCHWARTZ AN ADVENTURE OF SPIROU AND FANTASIO The Memory of the Future (Vol. 57), Dupuis 2024 Original artwork No. 13, previously published in *Spirou* magazine No. 4477 on January 31, 2024. Signed. India ink on paper 35 × 47.3 cm (13.78 × 18.62 in.) A pivotal panel in the story. Spirou is now plagued by doubt. He doesn’t understand why he finds himself facing two Fantasio figures: one created by artificial intelligence and the other—the real one—who is trying to break into his dream to bring him back to reality. Like Hamlet facing his skull, Spirou sits in his armchair, wrestling with the question of what is real and what is not. In the sixth panel, Olivier Schwartz subtly provides a clue. He substitutes Cyanure for Fantasio—proof of the deception that, unfortunately, only the reader perceives for a few seconds. “Look at the name of the village the characters are leaving. It’s called Fondvert. It’s a reference to the green screens used in filmmaking to create special effects. This additional clue shows us that we’re not in reality.” O.S.
