Schwartz OLIVIER SCHWARTZ AN ADVENTURE OF SPIROU AND FANTASIO Dupuis Original illustration for the 2023 Spirou calendar, a supplement to Spirou magazine No. 4420, dated December 28, 2022. Signed. Watercolor and India ink on paper 29 × 33.5 cm (11.42 × 13.19 in.) A tribute to Fernand Dineur and Will, respectively the creator and artist of Tif and Tondu, in this illustration with its paradoxical atmosphere of tension. This winter evening could indeed be Christmas Eve, with a beautiful starry sky and warm light streaming from the house. However, our characters are walking under the threat of an armed Zantafio. The sense of unease evident on their faces is heightened by the counterintuitive movement of the characters, who are moving from right to left. Note Spip’s footprints buried in the snow, which add a touch of humor and help lighten the mood of the scene. “Originally, it was supposed to be Monsieur Choc threatening these characters. But since the rights holders rejected the project, he was replaced by Zantafio.” O.S.
