Bonhomme MATTHIEU BONHOMME LUCKY LUKE (AS SEEN BY...) Lucky Luke's Long March, Lucky Comics 2026 Original artwork no. 56. Signed. India ink on paper 35 × 50.1 cm (13.78 × 19.72 in.) This panel is guaranteed to wow, combining a decorative aesthetic with a narrative of relentless effectiveness. The first panel, reminiscent of certain prints by Henri Rivière, plunges us into the heart of the forest in all its verticality, imposing a slow rhythm: that of two tiny characters in the midst of this vastness. When Red Cloud decides to slip away from Lucky Luke, Matthieu Bonhomme shifts from a vertical to a horizontal composition. This sudden compression of the panels, along with their elongation, creates a sense of acceleration that is further accentuated as the hero gallops away. “I placed the topmost branches of the pine trees very high to give them a cathedral-like effect. I also tried to add more snowflakes to the trees in the background to reinforce this sense of verticality. With the exception of the main characters, I only inked the parts that weren’t snow. This creates a rather ghostly atmosphere.” M.B.
