Bonhomme MATTHIEU BONHOMME LUCKY LUKE (AS SEEN BY...) Lucky Luke's Long March, Lucky Comics 2026 Original artwork no. 2. Signed. India ink on paper 35 × 50.1 cm (13.78 × 19.72 in.) A magnificent opening scene. The hero arrives in town, seen from behind, in the snow. The pace is slow. The atmosphere is peaceful. The chiaroscuro and the smoke in the distance add to the tranquility of the evening. Nothing alerts us—until a man falls out of the saloon door just as Lucky Luke is about to enter. The action can now begin, and our hero reveals his face. Note the particularly meticulous rendering of the snow-covered buildings and the gentle curves on the ground, which reinforce the sense of calm before the storm. “We don’t yet know that it’s Lucky Luke who’s approaching. He’s still just a dark, ghostly presence in the world of a small, snow-covered village—run-down, somewhat poor, and isolated. To conceal the hero’s identity, I used close-ups. I focused on close-ups of his feet and hand. We also see that trees are being cut down here. ‘Sawmill’ means a lumber mill.” M.B.
