Tillieux MAURICE TILLIEUX FÉLIX Héroic Album 4, 1953 Original art pages nos. 4 and 5 from *Félix the Burglar*. Signed. India ink and blue pencil on paper Each: 32.5 × 48.2 cm (12.8 × 18.98 in.) This marks the beginning of Tillieux’s career at *Héroïc-Albums*, a Belgian weekly magazine founded by Fernand Cheneval in 1945. In these panels, Tillieux develops his style, inspired by Hergé, Albert Dubout, and Jean Dratz, the editor-in-chief of *Bravo*. A novelist in his early days, Tillieux helped give *Héroïc-Albums* a more mature tone with themes that were more “adult” in nature, which—due to censorship and the 1949 law—prevented its distribution in France. Héroïc-Albums then welcomed a new generation of creators: Jidéhem, Greg, Tibet, Albert Weinberg, François Craenhals, Fred Funcken… Tillieux towered over them all, both in terms of artwork and storytelling, many of whose storylines he would later adapt for *Tif & Tondu*, *Jess Long*, and *Natacha*.
