Will WILL TIF AND TONDU Dupuis Tondu as a Narwhal 135, original illustration. Signed. India ink, gouache, and Ecoline on paper 40.5 × 37 cm (15.94 × 14.57 in.) In *Plein Gaz*, a *Tif and Tondu* adventure written by Maurice Rosy—in which Dupuis’s “idea man” conceived a story about race cars— Will was able to express his passion for design (Will was, at the time, the art director of the weekly magazine *Tintin*) in this famous “Atom style,” which had been popularized at the Brussels World’s Fair. For this album, he created the Narval 135, inspired by the sports cars and futuristic body styles of the era. Its name evokes the spectacular Delahaye 135 MS, a series on which Pinin Farina had worked and which, due to its tapered front hood, was dubbed “Narval” by the coachbuilders Figoni and Falaschi. This gouache drawing, likely from the 1970s or 1980s, pays homage to the legendary 1958 comic book. Didier Pasamonik It’s a beautiful illustration for *Plein gaz*, one of the most iconic comic books. Formula 1 champion Jacky Ickx once said that this was the comic book that inspired him to become a race car driver. Éric Maltaite
