Uderzo ALBERT UDERZO TANGUY AND LAVERDURE For the Honor of the Cockades (Vol. 2), Dargaud 1962 Original page No. 11 (numbered 56 since the series began) based on the script by Jean-Michel Charlier, first published in Pilote No. 45 on September 1, 1960. Indian ink on paper 43.5 × 56.5 cm (17.13 × 22.24 in.) This page is exceptional for the climax created by Charlier: he pulls off one of his famous plot twists. Here we see Laverdure as a boisterous eccentric, there Tanguy as a marble-like hero, while we witness the final moments of Saint-Hélier, a young fighter pilot and son of an aviator killed in action, who appeared in the previous volume, *L'École des aigles*. Hélier, having overcome his fear of flying, had been responsible for the accidental death of his commander. Here he dies heroically, earning him a posthumous rehabilitation. The title and subject matter of the comic perfectly align with the patriotic spirit championed in its early days by the weekly magazine *Pilote*.
