St Hilaire - Hand coloured lithograph of a Doe of the Stag Pig 1818. This hand-coloured lithograph is from the work entitled Histoire Naturelle des Mammiferes avec les figures originales d'apres des animaux vivants, a work produced by the combined efforts of Geoffrey St. Hilaire and Frederic Cuvier 1818-37. This was the work of two of the most celebrated French zoologists of the period. Étienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire was Professor of Zoology for Vertebrated Animals at the MuséuJoseph D'histoire naturelle, and Frédéric Cuvier, brother of the more celebrated Georges Cuvier, joined the museum as keeper of the menagerie in 1804. Size: 20.5in x 14in (52cm x 35cm) The lithograph is as issued, without stamps, annotations or other markings. The plate is uncut, untrimmed, resulting in wide margins, some edges may be frayed or have minor tears.
