Pair of turtle carapace bones (probably from the species Lepidochelys olivacea, or olive ridley turtle) without scales Beautiful craftsmanship that reveals the bone usually hidden beneath the turtle’s scales. When processing turtle carapaces, the artisan removes the animal’s scales, leaving behind the carapace bone, as seen in these two objects. On one of the carapaces, the outline of the scales is still faintly visible. Usually discarded by artisans, turtle carapace bones are rarely found on the market and have become a true curiosity.
