A British War Medal 1914-1918, named to: J57406 T Tully Boy 1 RN. With copy service record and extract from medal roll. Thomas Tully was born in Oldham, Lancashire on 6 January 1901. He enlisted in the Royal Navy at Devonport as a Boy 2nd Class on 16 August 1916, aged just fifteen, and was trained as a Torpedo Gunner at the Torpedo Training School, HMS Defiance, and advanced to Boy 1st Class. He then served until the end of the First World War aboard HMS Warspite, a Queen Elizabeth-Class battleship. On reaching his 18th birthday on 3 January 1919 he signed on for 12 years Continuous Service as an Ordinary Seaman. He was advanced to Able Seaman in November 1920 and served for the remainder of his service in a variety of ships, his final ship being HMS Frobisher, a new Hawkins-Class heavy cruiser commissioned in 1920 and which formed part of the Atlantic Fleet. Thomas Tully was invalided to shore in June 1931, suffering from Bronchiectasis. He had received two Good Conduct Badges and, for his WW1 service, he was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal, but the whereabouts of the latter are not known. The medal has an edge knock and is a little polished, but otherwise very Fine (VF) condition.
