Description: Maurice de La Fontaine, Baron de Fontenay (1872–1957), a former cavalry officer and World War I veteran, was elected in November 1919 as a Paris city councilor representing the Chaillot district. He devoted a significant portion of his career to social issues: as chairman of the committee responsible in particular for public assistance and as general rapporteur for its budget, he also chaired the City of Paris’s Office of Affordable Housing. A enduring figure in Parisian municipal life, he served as president of the Paris City Council from 1932 to 1933. As a member of the Paris Liberation Committee, he continued his municipal work after the war.
