IMPORTANT SAVONNERIE-STYLE RUG (C.N.A.: National Company of French Artists in the Indies) The central field: The background features a soft golden-beige/champagne hue with a silky, moiré effect. At its center is a large, multi-lobed circular medallion adorned with a heart of roses, surrounded by a dense garland of wildflowers and stylized foliage. Four spandrels are decorated with broad acanthus scrolls featuring golden curls framing polychrome floral bouquets. Hanging garlands and flowering branches (mainly rosebuds) connect the corners to the medallion, structuring the design. The borders: an inner border featuring a geometric pattern of ovals and gilded friezes, and a wide outer border in French blue and turquoise, encircles the rug and creates a striking contrast with warm tones of beige and old gold. This rug draws direct inspiration from the classical French repertoire (Louis XIV and Louis XV styles), characterized by a rigorous, symmetrical, and richly floral composition. Hand-knotted rug using the Savonnerie knot (dense, silky, high-quality wool pile that is thick and closely cut, offering a sumptuous appearance and a very comfortable feel, unlike flat-woven Aubusson-style rugs); the rug has been cleaned and is mounted on a cotton backing. Circa 1960–65. Dimensions: 275 x 245 cm (Good overall condition. Beautiful color scheme). Expert: Frank Kassapian.
