BASED ON AN ANTIQUE Ariadne or Bacchus. Bust on a pedestal, in bronze with a light brown patina. The reverse is marked with the Collas mechanical reduction stamp. Height: 28 cm. (wear on the patina). Description: Bronze reduction based on an ancient model housed at the Capitoline Museums. This portrait, depicting a young Bacchus, was once considered to be a representation of Ariadne. The sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen obtained a plaster cast of it, which is now preserved in the museum dedicated to him [Inv. No. L113]
