BASED ON THE POMPEII BRASERO A dark gray metal alloy model in the shape of a trophy. The satyr-adorned uprights rest on a triangular base engraved with an inscription and a date: I. BATTERY B. BRIGADE PRESENTED BY CAPTAIN J.H. ALEXANDER JAN. 1879. England, late 19th century. Height: 34 cm. (Signs of wear, some chips and damage). Description: This object is a free interpretation of the Pompeii brazier housed at the Archaeological Museum of Naples [Inv. No. 27874]. The inscription appears to link it to a unit of the British Royal Artillery. The mention of Captain J. H. Alexander suggests that it was a gift presented within a regimental context, perhaps on the occasion of a specific event in military life.
