Aubusson tapestry valance Late 19th–early 20th century 304 x 183 cm Featuring a woodland motif throughout the piece, in a monochromatic palette of reddish tones on a light background, with “The Hare and the Tortoise” depicted in the center of the upper band. A fine example of the use of lice tapestry in interior design: valances are designed to frame windows and consist of an upper section—the band—and two side panels—the slopes. The piece is lined and in good condition. Expert: Nicole de Pazzis-Chevalier
