At the same time that I was feeling the intense joy of a new life, my father was diagnosed with lung cancer. It’s fair to say that I found myself reflecting on the fundamental themes of life and death. Thanks to my son, my role as a son took on new meaning, and my senses were hyper-alert to the reality of my own life slipping away. Then, these photographs sort of just came about.
