Rare printed canvas featuring a figure, engraved by Henry Roberts, probably Nixon & Company, England, circa 1765; one of the earliest copperplate prints on cream-colored cotton, a technique that allowed for the production of designs with a larger repeat and greater detail than those traditionally printed from woodblocks. Red-toned design featuring a pastoral scene and ancient ruins; the engraver’s signature is clearly legible on the bottom crossbar of the palisade. Part of a bedspread (with a few minor imperfections and old restorations), 207 x 121 cm.
